Brisbane Airport Flight Path Changes Post Implementation Review

This project is closed.

Panoramic render of the Brisbane Airport New Runway at dusk

Brisbane Airport’s new runway and the associated flight paths commenced operations on 12 July 2020. These flight paths have changed the way aircraft operate as they arrive and depart from Brisbane Airport.

Brisbane Airport Corporation and Airservices continue to work with stakeholders across community, government and industry to ensure that the Brisbane Airport operations meet the highest safety standards and incorporate the most environmentally sustainable practices wherever practicable.

For information on current aircraft operations visit our interactive Aircraft in Your Neighbourhood website here.

  • Brisbane Airport Runway Maintenance Update

The maintenance work planned for today on the legacy runway (01R/19L) has been cancelled due to this morning’s fog event.

Advice on the rescheduled date for this work will be provided when confirmed.

  • PIR Update - Trax International Final Report

Airservices Australia CEO, Jason Harfield, has received the Brisbane New Parallel Runway Flight Paths Post Implementation Review Independent Review Final Report from Trax International (Trax).

Trax was appointed by Mr. Harfield to independently review and make improvement recommendations across all aspects of the Brisbane PIR, with a particular focus on opportunities to limit and, where possible, reduce impacts of aircraft noise.

Mr. Harfield will now review the Final Report before publishing the report on our website by mid-August. Airservices will also prepare our recommended approach in response to the Trax Final Report, ahead of stakeholder and community meetings scheduled for early September.

  • Brisbane Airport Runway Maintenance Update

Brisbane Airport Corporation will be conducting maintenance work on the legacy runway (01R/19L) on 2 August 2022, starting 10:00AM and concluding at 4:00PM. If the works are completed ahead of this time, the runway will be returned to service earlier. Maintenance is required on the runways aeronautical ground lighting. Additional civil maintenance and pavement works will also be conducted during the closure.

Community members may notice a temporary change to aircraft operations during this work, as all arrivals and departures will be conducted using the new parallel runway (01L/19R).

The noise improvement trials to extend Simultaneous Opposite Direction Parallel Runway Operations (SODPROPS) hours and to restrict intersection departures on the new parallel runway will not be affected by this maintenance.

If you have any questions about the runway maintenance, please contact Brisbane Airport Corporation by email at feedback@bne.com.au.

If you have specific questions or complaints about aircraft operations, please contact our Noise Complaints and Information Service (NCIS).

  • Trax International - New online community focus group on Tuesday 28 June at 6PM

Trax International would like to offer members of the community who could not attend the in-person focus groups an additional opportunity to be part of their engagement on the Brisbane PIR.

Trax International will be holding an additional online community focus group meeting on Tuesday 28 June at 6pm.

  • Brisbane Noise Improvement Trials – Quarterly Update

Airservices is pleased to provide the first quarterly update (24 February – 23 May 2022) for the current noise improvement trials in Brisbane.

Extended Simultaneous Opposite Direction Parallel Runway Operations (SODPROPS) trial

We are trialling the extension of SODPROPS operations from 6am to 8am on Saturday and Sunday mornings, when weather conditions allow. When SODPROPS is in use, jets and most propeller-driven (turboprop) aircraft arrive and depart over Moreton Bay.

Please click here for first quarter trial results.

On 7 May 2022, a further extension of SODPROPS was added on Saturday evening from 8pm to 10pm. The results of this extension will be reported in the next quarterly report.

Restriction on intersection departures from the New Parallel Runway trial

We are trialling restricting intersection departures for all aircraft (jets and turboprops - excluding emergency service aircraft) from the new runway over the city. This means aircraft will commence their take-off roll from the northern end of the new runway.

Please click here for first quarter trial results.

For more information on each trial, please visit the following links:

  • Brisbane Airport Runway Maintenance Update

Brisbane Airport Corporation will be conducting urgent maintenance work on the legacy runway (01R/19L) on 21 June 2022, starting 10:00AM and concluding at 4:00PM.
