Brisbane Airport Flight Path Changes Post Implementation Review
This project is closed.
Brisbane Airport’s new runway and the associated flight paths commenced operations on 12 July 2020. These flight paths have changed the way aircraft operate as they arrive and depart from Brisbane Airport.
Brisbane Airport Corporation and Airservices continue to work with stakeholders across community, government and industry to ensure that the Brisbane Airport operations meet the highest safety standards and incorporate the most environmentally sustainable practices wherever practicable.
For information on current aircraft operations visit our interactive Aircraft in Your Neighbourhood website here.

Brisbane Noise Improvement Trials – Quarterly Update
Airservices is pleased to provide the second quarterly update (24 May – 23 August 2022) for the current noise improvement trials in Brisbane.
Extended Simultaneous Opposite Direction Parallel Runway Operations (SODPROPS) trial
We are trialling the extension of SODPROPS operations from 6am to 8am on Saturday and Sunday mornings, when weather conditions allow. When SODPROPS is in use, jets and most propeller-driven (turboprop) aircraft arrive and depart over Moreton Bay. On 7 May 2022, a further extension of SODPROPS was added on Saturday evening from 8pm to 10pm. The results of this extension have been included in this quarterly report.
Please click here for second quarter trial results.
Restriction on intersection departures from the New Parallel Runway trial
We are trialling restricting intersection departures for all aircraft (jets and turboprops - excluding emergency service aircraft) from the new runway over the city. This means aircraft will commence their take-off roll from the northern end of the new runway.
Please click here for second quarter trial results.

Response to Trax International Final Report
Airservices Australia will adopt all recommendations in the recently released Brisbane New Parallel Runway Flight Paths Post Implementation Review (PIR) Independent Review Final Report by Trax International (Trax).
Airservices’ response to the Trax Final Report can be viewed here.
Airservices Chief Executive Officer Jason Harfield said Airservices had carefully considered the final report and adopts all the Trax Final Report recommendations. Community workshops are scheduled for September to discuss the Trax Final Repot recommendations, other Airservices findings and seek feedback.
You can provide feedback on the Trax report and Airservices response ahead of the community workshops here.

New Noise Improvement Trial
As part of our commitment to explore all opportunities to minimise noise impacts in Brisbane, Airservices has been working with QantasLink on a new trial for QantasLink Dash 8 Q400 turboprop aircraft to use an existing Required Navigation Performance – Authorisation Required (RNP-AR) flight path over Moreton Bay. This flight path will be used for arrivals to runway 19L (legacy runway) and aims to reduce the impact of aircraft operations on North Stradbroke Island and Moreton Island. A fact sheet explaining the trial can be viewed here.
The trial will commence on 5 September 2022 and will run for 12 months. Findings will be provided in quarterly reviews published on this site.
Provide your feedback
We welcome community feedback on the trial. To provide feedback please use our online form at any time during the 12 month trial.
We will consider all feedback as part of the quarterly review. We are particularly interested in any change to aircraft noise or operations that communities on North Stradbroke Island and Moreton Island notice during this trial.
If you have specific questions or complaints about aircraft operations, please contact our Noise Complaints and Information Service (NCIS).
