Panoramic render of the Brisbane Airport New Runway at dusk

Brisbane Airport’s new runway and the associated flight paths commenced operations on 12 July 2020. These flight paths have changed the way aircraft operate as they arrive and depart from Brisbane Airport.

Brisbane Airport Corporation and Airservices continue to work with stakeholders across community, government and industry to ensure that the Brisbane Airport operations meet the highest safety standards and incorporate the most environmentally sustainable practices wherever practicable.

For information on current aircraft operations visit our interactive Aircraft in Your Neighbourhood website here.

  • Release of PIR Draft Terms of Reference

Airservices Australia is pleased to announce the commencement of its Post Implementation Review (PIR) of the Brisbane Airport Flight Path Changes.

You can read more about the PIR in our fact sheet here.

Release of draft Terms of Reference

We have developed draft Terms of Reference (ToR) which sets out our approach to undertaking the PIR. We have attempted to cover both our standard PIR requirements and also tailor some elements of the review to be specific to known community issues and interests.

The draft ToR is available for comment from Friday 30 July to Sunday 5 September 2021 (midnight AEST) and can be viewed here.

You can provide feedback on the draft ToR here.

    Community Meeting

In August, Airservices will host a community meeting to share information on the PIR process and respond to community questions. Due to COVID-19 restrictions and to ensure wide community reach, this event will be available for community members to attend in person and online.

Further details on this event and a request for expressions of interest to attend in person will be provided on this project page.

  • Update on PIR Timing

Thank you to everyone who has registered to receive updates on the Brisbane Post Implementation Review (PIR).

We are currently drafting the Terms of Reference (ToR) for the review and plan to release these for a public comment period in July 2021.

If you are signed up for updates you will be notified when the ToR are available.

  • Runway Operations Dashboards

Brisbane Airport have released a number of dashboards which report on overnight operations, runway directional use and on-time performance.

Access the dashboards here (external site).

  • Runway Opening Livestream

Brisbane's new runway and associated flight paths become operational from Sunday 12 July 2020.

Watch the livestream of the official launch online here (external site) and be part of history.

To support the new runway, the flight paths will change the way aircraft operate as they arrive and depart from Brisbane Airport. For more information on flight paths and aircraft operations, visit Brisbane Airport's Flight Path Tool here (external site).

  • Operational Readiness and Testing for Brisbane's New Runway

The final period of Operational Readiness and Testing (ORAT) is close to completion, before Brisbane's new runway becomes operational on 12 July 2020.

ORAT is required to meet the final safety, security and regulatory compliance requirements before parallel runway operations commence.

Learn more about ORAT here (external link).

  • New flight paths go live

Brisbane's airspace changes on Thursday 21 May, ready for when the new runway opens on Sunday 12 July.

Even though the airspace change means that the new flight paths are installed in the aircraft and air traffic control systems, the flight paths to and from the new runway won't be used as until it opens on 12 July. In the interim period, between the airspace change and the opening of the runway, amended flight paths to the current runway will be used.

Find out more about this airspace change and flight paths in Brisbane Airport's Flight Path Tool (external site).
