Panoramic render of the Brisbane Airport New Runway at dusk

Brisbane Airport’s new runway and the associated flight paths commenced operations on 12 July 2020. These flight paths have changed the way aircraft operate as they arrive and depart from Brisbane Airport.

Brisbane Airport Corporation and Airservices continue to work with stakeholders across community, government and industry to ensure that the Brisbane Airport operations meet the highest safety standards and incorporate the most environmentally sustainable practices wherever practicable.

In response to community feedback on the limited numbers advised previously for these sessions, we have increased from two to four sessions, and will consider additional sessions if necessary. We have maintained the limit of 50 people per session to manage COVID-19 risks and to ensure we can have a meaningful discussion with attendees. A Livestream will also be provided on the Engage project page.

    Purpose of the sessions

These sessions will provide an opportunity for the community to learn more about the PIR purpose and process, and to discuss the draft PIR Terms of Reference (ToR), including some of the feedback we have received to date. An updated draft ToR will be provided to the community for further comment following the sessions.

To allow for greater participation, we will be holding the sessions in both in-person and online formats. We will publish a recording of the key presentations on our Engage Airservices site after the events.

Filming and camera equipment is not permitted in the sessions as they deter participation.

Airservices will host more community information sessions and workshops at key points during the PIR. This will also be discussed in these first meetings.

  • Community Information Sessions rescheduled

Airservices would like to advise that the community information sessions on the Brisbane PIR will be rescheduled to October.

In determining the proposed timing, we considered many elements including COVID lockdowns and the Terms of Reference Review period. The first public meeting was scheduled next week to close out the first round of feedback on the Terms of Reference that closed on September 5.

We’d hoped the southern states would be out of lockdown to allow our noise specialists based in Canberra and Melbourne to attend. However, due to the extended lockdowns and concerns from the community around the timing of the meetings, we are happy to move the sessions to after the school holidays.

We will provide updated information on the new dates once we confirm venue availability and will give at least two weeks’ notice.

  • Brisbane PIR draft Terms of Reference comment period closed

The first review period for the draft Terms of Reference (ToR) is now closed.

We thank everyone who participated by providing feedback on the draft ToR.

We will consider all community feedback and will provide an updated version of the ToR on this project page.

  • PIR update - Community Session

Due to the current COVID-19 restrictions in Brisbane affecting the number of people allowed in indoor venues, the community session we were proposing for August 2021 will be rescheduled to September 2021. This will allow for a greater number of community members to attend the session in person. A live streaming option to view the presentations will also be provided.

Submissions on the Terms of Reference will remain open until 5 September 2021. The community session will address the feedback we receive. An updated ToR will be released for a second round of feedback.

We have provided a list of commonly asked questions in our PIR FAQs section. These will be updated as questions are received. You may find it useful to read through these prior to preparing your submission.
