In this our fifth edition we take a look at important pilot considerations when issued an instruction to cross runway 29R and hold short of runway 29C, which is frequently used on departure! We discuss tips from ATC, such as giving way when taxing to aircraft vacating a runway, as well as allowing them to vacate without delay. We further discuss the importance and use of altitude segregation at Bankstown; a key procedural risk control in avoiding conflicts on departure and arrival. On the radio we discuss how ATC will avoid issuing instructions during critical phases of flight, and the importance of pilot situation awareness in preventing confusion should instructions be unclear (or even issued in error).
