Welcome back to the second edition of ‘The view from Jandakot Tower’ newsletter. Thank you for engaging with this initiative and promoting it to all your aviation colleagues and friends operating in and around Jandakot.
In our second edition of The view from Jandakot Tower, you’ll find guidance and tips on identifying key elements of an ATC clearance, which assist to confirm when a clearance is directed at you. You can review advice on helicopter operations and the importance of maintaining situation awareness of the proximity between fixed wing and helicopter circuits. Further, we discuss the importance of listening actively and staying alert to unexpected instructions, along with avoiding distractions, which can result in missed or repeated ATC instructions that can result in delays to you or your fellow pilots.
Jandakot ATC also touch on the valuable learnings achieved, for ATC and pilots alike, from a recent flying school visit by ATC, with their students then making a visit to Jandakot Tower to observe operations from the other side of the microphone!

Welcome to the launch edition of ‘The view from Jandakot Tower’ newsletter. We hope this initiative provides operational learnings that keep Jandakot pilots and operators informed and safe, both on the ground and in the air.
In the first edition of The view from Jandakot Tower, you’ll find guidance and tips on adhering to published procedures, including giving way to aircraft vacating a runway, along with information on the importance of minimising frequency congestion and using standard phraseology. Further, we explore common deviations from standard arrival and departure procedures, as well providing advice on the importance on following traffic as directed.
We also discuss what to do when queried by ATC, or where a pilot is confused or concerned that an instruction may have been issued in error.
ATC frequently observe Jandakot pilots taking action to learn and grow a positive safety culture at Jandakot. Each edition we will further aim to highlight examples of great airmanship being observed, as well and exploring opportunities for learning for pilots and ATC alike.
