Welcome back to the third edition of ‘The view from Jandakot Tower’ newsletter. It’s been a while between editions, so thank for your patience and thank you for continuing to engage with this initiative. Please print out and display prominently at your organisation and share with your pilot networks
In our third edition of The view from Jandakot Tower, ATC discuss how to navigate Special VFR, when it is needed, when to request it and what is required. We discuss airmanship in and around the circuit, including tips for helping manage the queue for circuit operations and what you can do to support more efficient operations for your fellow pilots.
Remember, all runways should be considered active. If ATC have not used the words “cross runway…” you do not have clearance to cross the runway! Read tips from ATC on how to prevent a runway incursion!
Finally, there’s an important ‘did you know’ item on runway landing standards (and their application by ATC), which is aimed at increasing pilot awareness and understanding to reduce potentially unnecessary go arounds, particularly in the Metro D environment.
