Western Sydney International Airport (WSI)
Airservices Australia is supporting Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport (WSI) in their quest to be a world-class smart airport, built to service 10 million passengers per year from day one when it opens in 2026.
The Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government has authorised the preliminary airspace and flight paths for WSI on 4 June 2025.
Prior to this date, industry engagement activity was led by the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications, Sport, and the Arts (the department) with subject matter expertise provided by Airservices Australia, the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA), Department of Defence, and supporting consultants.
Airservices Australia will now lead industry engagement for the WSI detailed flight path and airspace design (detailed design) and implementation.
The detailed design process will include simulation testing and ongoing safety assessments, industry consultation on Noise Abatement Procedures, and information to raise awareness of how the flight paths and airspace will operate.

Update 6 - Amended Bankstown airport VFR lane and Updated Draft VTC
As part of the Western Sydney International Airport (WSI) Detailed Design Airspace Change Proposal (ACP), amendments have been made to:
- The Visual Flight Rules (VFR) lanes southwest of Bankstown Airport (YSBK), shifting the lanes further south
- a volume of airspace above the YSBK Control Zone (CTR), introducing an additional 500ft Class D CTA step
These amendments aim to improve safety outcomes and have been developed in consultation with the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA).
The amendments are depicted on an Updated VTC – Sydney Inset (Note: this replaces the previous Draft VTC’s)
We invite industry stakeholders to participate in upcoming engagement session where we will discuss the amendments:
- Monday, 20 October 2025, 1600-1700L at Bankstown Sports Club (8 Greenfield Parade, Bankstown NSW 2200). CLICK HERE to register
Due to room capacity, please register your attendance by following the above link.
The Bankstown Sports Club industry information session will occur immediately before CASA’s AvSafety pilot seminar (see: AvSafety seminar - Bankstown), at the same location.
We welcome industry comment on this amendment via this survey: CLICK HERE to complete the surveyThe industry comment period will remain open until to 24 October 2025.
