  • CASA validation flights and emergency exercise at WSI Airport

We would like to notify you about upcoming activities this month where you may notice unusual aircraft movement in your area.

    CASA validation flights - 23 and 24 October 2025

The Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) is conducting validation flights on Thursday 23 October and Friday 24 October 2025. These validation flights are conducted as part of the Airspace Change Proposal (ACP) process and aim to confirm that procedures for Western Sydney International (WSI) Airport can be safely flown and that the airspace is clear of obstructions.

You may notice a small propeller-driven aircraft flying as low as several hundred feet at times and an uncommon flying pattern. This is to make sure obstacles are accurately marked on charts and no new obstacles exist. Obstacles can be towers, trees, masts or buildings that can be a danger to aircraft.

If you wish to find out more about the validation activities, please contact CASA on 131 757 or submit your enquiry through CASA’s website.

    Emergency Exercise at WSI Airport – 28 & 29 October 2025

The WSI Airport operator, in partnership with the NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS), will conduct an emergency exercise at WSI Airport on Tuesday 28 October and Wednesday 29 October 2025.

On Tuesday 28 October, RFS will operate a Boeing 737 aircraft, flying from Richmond RAAF Base to WSI Airport. The aircraft is scheduled to:

    • arrive at WSI Airport between 8:00am and 9:30am
    • depart WSI Airport between 2:00pm and 3:30pm

During these times, you may notice the aircraft flying at low altitude between Richmond and WSI Airport. It will be operating in Class G airspace, below 5,000 feet.

Please note that the aircraft will not fly any of the proposed WSI flight paths, as these are still pending validation by CASA

To ensure safe operations while this aircraft is in the air, the airspace above WSI Airport will be temporarily closed to other aircraft during the above times.

If you wish to find out more about the emergency exercise, please contact the team at Western Sydney International Airport directly on 1800 972 972 or info@wsiairport.com.au

  • Conclusion of detailed design community engagement

Community engagement on flight path and airspace changes for Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport (WSI) has now concluded. We would like to thank everyone who provided feedback and submitted an expression of interest or location suggestion for a temporary noise monitor.

Relevant feedback from the community regarding Noise Abatement Procedures (NAPs) will be reviewed and considered in further development of WSI NAPs.

The expressions of interest and location suggestions received for the temporary noise monitors will be reviewed and a shortlist of appropriate locations identified for inclusion in this program. You will be notified of the outcome of your submission shortly and suitable candidates will be advised of next steps.

Subject to CASA approvals, the airspace changes will be implemented in mid-2026 ahead of the opening of WSI Airport. We will keep the community updated on progress and future opportunities to discuss WSI operations with our team.
