Construction of Brisbane's NewConstruction of Brisbane's New Runway - Operational Readiness and Testing
With the new runway construction complete, Brisbane Airport Corporation commenced the final phase of this mammoth project - Operational Readiness and Testing (ORAT). This video explains the key elements of ORAT, including some of the safety, security and regulatory compliance requirements that must be met before Brisbane Airport can commence parallel runway operations.
Brisbane's new runway will open on Sunday 12 July 2020 and once open, will give Brisbane the most efficient runway system in Australia. It will serve the needs of South East Queensland for decades to come, maintaining and growing our connections with the world as our city continues to grow, while building the gateway to Queensland and Australia.

There are many factors to consider when planning airspace design, with the most important being safety. Other factors include minimising noise for the community, efficiency of operations and unrestricted operations for other airports.
Fiona Lawton from Airservices Australia explains the factors considered for Brisbane's new airspace design, which will come into effect when Brisbane's new runway opens in mid-2020.
