Bankstown Airport – Southeast VFR Corridor

The Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA), in consultation with Airservices Australia, is proposing to reclassify a portion of the Sydney Control Zone (CTR) to class G airspace from the surface to 1500ft and introduce two VFR routes to the southeast of Bankstown.

CASA is preparing an airspace change proposal (ACP) to establish two (2) daytime visual flight rule (VFR) lanes to the south and south-east of the Bankstown control zone.

The proposed design is intended to reduce airspace risks associated with constrained nature of the Bankstown control zone, sustained growth in air traffic in the region while also providing equitable and efficient access for airspace users.

CASA will be inviting feedback from the aviation industry and plan to open consultation on the proposal in mid-August 2024.

What is happening now

Airservices Australia are currently in the planning phase which involves seeking information on the best way to engage with stakeholders about these proposed changes.

What are the next steps

Industry and community engagement will be undertaken from August 2024.
