PIR Recommended actions 4 and 6 - Options Assessment Outcomes
Following the community engagement sessions in late 2024, we have been working through assessment of the Hobart Airport Post Implementation Review (PIR) Recommendations 4 and 6. These recommendations were:
- Recommendation 4 - Shift the Runway 30 RNP-AR 2 to 3km to the east
- Recommendation 6 - Move Runway 30 arrivals to the east coast over water
The assessments are now complete, and we are pleased to share the outcomes. A summary can be viewed below:
Based on our assessment, Airservices has determined that Recommendation 4 will be progressed to preferred design, which will involve more detailed design, safety and environmental assessment and a further round of community engagement ahead of a decision on implementation.
Recommendation 6 will not be progressed to preferred design, as it was not supported by community or industry, does not provide a net noise improvement, and would result in a substantial increase in emissions.

The reports are available for questions and comment through to Sunday 10 August 2025. Click on the Questions tab to ask a question or provide feedback.
