Sydney Airport - Runway maintenance works

Consultation has concluded. Thank you for your participation.

Why are the changes necessary?

Sydney Airport is undertaking essential construction and maintenance works of the main runway and associated taxiways. The works will involve up to fifty partial closures of Runway 16R/34L and will include:

Airfield ground lighting maintenance

Airfield ground lighting upgrade projects

Rubber removal and pavement inspections

Asphalt surface patching and repair (including line marking)

Asphalt surface enrichment spray treatment

General maintenance works, line marking maintenance, service locating and investigations.

What is changing and when?

As a result of these works aircraft will operate during the curfew period (11pm and 6am) on the parallel Runway 16L/34R for up to 38 nights until 31 March 2024. It is anticipated that following this period, the number of nights that this will occur will reduce to up to 12 nights per quarter on an on-going basis.

Where can I find more information?
