Changes to Air Traffic Control tower operating hours

The operating hours of the Air Traffic Control tower at Sunshine Coast Airport are set to change. Currently, the tower operates from 7:00 am to 7:40 pm (local time), but this will be revised to 7:00 am to 5:40 pm from Monday to Saturday, and 7:00am to 6:40pm on Sunday (local time). The new hours will take effect from Thursday, 4 June 2026, for an initial 90-day period, with the option to extend. This adjustment is intended to ensure effective coverage of core traffic periods. It will not impact airport safety, as when the tower is closed, the wider airspace continues to be managed by air traffic controllers at the Air Traffic Services Centre (ATSC) in Brisbane.
