The view from Moorabbin Tower - Edition 6

The View from Moorabbin Tower

Edition 6, July 2026

We’re well into 2026 and so it's time for another installment of The view from Moorabbin Tower, your newsletter dedicated to keeping you informed and safe on the ground and in the air.

Please print out and display prominently at your organisation and share with your pilot networks by forwarding the link or sharing the QR code (below), and don’t forget to encourage all to subscribe!

In Edition 6 we take a look at planning (& briefing!) for the unexpected, including the importance of rehearsing ‘what if’ scenarios. We further discuss the additional risks that may be present when crossing a runway, the importance of maintaining a listening watch to build situation awareness, as well as speaking up if it appears an ATC instruction may have been issued in error.

Finally, there’s an important ‘did you know’ item on runway landing standards (and their application by ATC), which is aimed at increasing pilot awareness and understanding to reduce potentially unnecessary go arounds, particularly in the Metro D environment.
