Mallacoota Aerodrome Reinstatement of temporarily unavailable instrument flight procedures

Consultation on this project has now concluded. Thank you for your interest, comments and input.

In May 2022, Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) regulations governing airports saw Mallacoota Aerodrome lose its status as a certified airport. As a result of this, instrument flight procedures (IFP) were removed for use.

The aerodrome is currently working to regain its CASA certification, with its expected reinstatement of IFP on 3 November 2022. IFP allow aircraft being operated under instrument flight rules (IFR) to utilise the aerodrome during poor weather conditions when visual flight rules (VFR) are no longer suitable or safe.

The reinstated IFP will replicate the flight paths that were previously in place prior to the decertification of the aerodrome. No changes will occur on where aircraft operate or aircraft types in the area.

Some parts of Mallacoota will experience noise levels above 60dB(A) and 70dB(A) – the same levels experienced prior to the decertification of the aerodrome. We expect the number of aircraft movements to be up to two arrivals on the aerodrome’s busiest day (based on historical data).
