Jandakot Aerodrome Beacon Utilisation

Consultation has concluded

Airservices Australia is proposing to decommission the Jandakot aerodrome beacon and remove it from operational service. As contained in Manual of Standards (MOS) Part 139, aerodrome beacons are no longer mandatory.

The present Jandakot aerodrome beacon was installed in the 1980s and has been out of service since 14 April 2021. Due to its age, the aerodrome beacon is difficult to maintain because of the unavailability of spare materials. The maintenance is further complicated by the potential presence of asbestos and working at heights restrictions.

In September 2021, the risk assessment and the Safety Case Assessment and Reporting Determination (SCARD) conducted by Airservices for the decommissioning of the Jandakot aerodrome beacon was approved. Airservices identified negligible operational safety and service delivery risks and negligible impact to industry.

Request for Industry Feedback:

Airservices is seeking industry feedback to understand if there is an operational requirement or impact on removal for the Jandakot aerodrome beacon before a decision for its decommissioning can be made. Airservices invites you to provide feedback using the survey form, found at the bottom of this page. This survey will close COB, 24 October 2021.
