Flight Information Service (FIS) in the Pilbara

Purpose

Airservices is consulting with industry stakeholders on how best to rectify identified deficiencies in the Pilbara FIS, and how to measure progress in delivering those rectifications.

Proposal
Airservices is progressing a program to improve the adequacy and effectiveness of Flight Information Service (FIS) in the Pilbara region in accordance with a CASA Direction.

The program includes two streams for concurrent delivery of initial risk mitigation in Financial Year 2026-2027 and pursuing longer-term capability uplift with planning and design activities underway.

A key requirement for the program is consultation with all users of Pilbara airspace on how best to rectify the Pilbara FIS identified deficiencies and how to measure progress in rectification.

In response to the attached consultation pack, Airservices is seeking industry stakeholders’ feedback to the following:

  1. initial risk mitigation to enhance HF delivery
  2. proposed long-term service enhancement approach
  3. proposed measures to track the progress of FIS rectification
  4. any additional suggestions or insights from industry stakeholders to enhance FIS outcomes.
